VFW -FW 16
Day 6

I attended Vancouver Fashion Week- Day 6 this year to view the FW16 collections. I saw a total of 7 incredible designers:

Elephanatics:
The first show I attended was Elephanatics, an elephant advocacy organization based in BC whose goal is to raise awareness regarding the survival of elephants in Asia & Africa. The designs were innovative masterpieces and you could tell the apparel was made with passion for the organization. At the close of the show, two of the models lead the rest of the models down the runway carrying elephant tusks as arms!

LIDIJA:
LIDIJA's is a designer from Macedonia & studied fashion design at Seneca College in Toronto, Her designs can be described as simple contemporary pieces with unique tailoring and unexpected embellishments. Her collection for FW16 were almost entirely all dresses and came in shades of purples, pinks and nudes.

Yahel Waisman:
The third show I attended was Yahel Waisman who is from Peru and studied fashion design at Felicidad Duce Institute in Barcelona and Central Saint Martins University in London. Her specialty is creating bridal gowns. Her collection this season is anything but traditional designing gowns that include different textures and range in colours from off white to lavender to soft pink to black lace with nude underlayers.

Ivette Alaniz:
Ivette Alaniz is from Tijuana and studied haute couture at Institute Yannem in Tijuana and IBERO Mexican Fashion Design in Mexico City. Her high-end designs have won her many awards in the industry and you can see why when you see her collection. One of my favourite shows of the night, her designs were classic in all-black but took an unexpected turn when it came to panelling and tailoring. I loved how she used various cuts from long to short to mid-length and used different materials such as lace, leather, satin, and silk.

TFORTHREE:
My other favourite show of the night was TFORTHREE, which is a fashion brand who have multiple fashion designers from all over the world that collaborate and develop products from Italian manufacturers. Their show this season showcased modern, contemporary innovation that was unlike anything I've ever seen. My favourite pieces were the white collared shirts and shirt dresses that tied in the front and back.

Lima Jordan:
Lima Jordan is from Germany and studied fashion design in London. Unfortunately I did not get any pictures from this show. Her collection was an androgynous mix of nomadic avant-garde fashion. Her purpose of this collection was to recognize sustainability, practicality, and simplicity into each creation. Asymmetrical tailoring and masculine silhouettes in rich, neutral tones were a main theme in her pieces.

Gatsbylady London:
Rojda Hoda is the designer for Gatsbylady London and studied fashion design at the University of London. It was the first time I had ever seen a plus-size model walk down the runway and I couldn't be more happier. I am glad to see that designers are starting to realize the importance of body image and the support from the audience was clear. Her collection is inspired by the great gatsby era of the 1920's and each piece is hand-sewn with high-quality embellishments. The collections ranges from a UK 0-30 and cover petite and tall sizes.
